Seakittens
Posted on January 13th, 2009 No commentsPETA, my favorite useless group in the world, has a new campaign. I like my Seakitten deep friend with cocktail sauce, unless it is really good Seakitten in which case raw with some Wasabi is nice.

Interesting First Ammendment thought
Posted on January 6th, 2009 No commentsI read this article and it got me thinking.
So ACLU wins quarter million because a guy has to cover his shirt. Arabic writing on the shirt, in an airport, he is told to cover the shirt because it makes people uncomfortable. He does, boards the plane and gets to his destination, where I assume he uncovered his shirt and went about his way. I accept him being pissed off, I would be to.. but…
When voting, I cannot wear a shirt of someone running for office in the election I am voting for. If I went to vote in a McCain shirt and McCain is running, I would need to cover or change that shirt before entering the polling place. My right to free speech is being limited in this case. If I want to vote wearing my McCain shirt I have the option of mailing in my ballet.
If I go to Disney World wearing a shirt saying “Stop Killing Babies” with a picture of an aborted fetus, I would be denied entry. If I wore something else, and they got a complaint, I would be forced to change or cover it. Free Speech is again limited in this case. I do not have to go to Disney World, it is not a right.
Now back to the case at the airport. I am assuming that someone actually complained, which might just be a cover. Considering the blase attitude of a lot of TSA people, I accept people complained. Someone may have been able to read Arabic and knew the statement was a political one and felt uneasy about it.
JFK is run by the governments of New York and New Jersey. It however is not a tax payer supported facility to my knowledge, instead it survives via fees. Airtran is not a government run airline. These two things make me think that this guy had no right to be there, no right to be on the plane, and no right to expect he can do or wear what he wants. He was in Disney World.
Was this racial profiling? Probably. If I wore the same shirt no one probably would have noticed, but I tend to shave before flying (so I don’t have to shave while on vacation). If I wore the same shirt, had a tan and did not shave I might have gotten the same reaction. But you know what my goal at an airport is (besides drinking while waiting for a flight)? It is to get on a plane and fly to my destination. The last thing I am thinking about is any political statement on my shirt. If I got pissed I would write a letter.
This is not the case where the family was denied access to a plane after being cleared by the FBI. That case is more complicated. I will say that I saw those people, still in FL, making the media rounds atleast a day after the incident. They were offered flights that they did not take, but hung around to do media. They are whores that can go fuck themselves.
I like and respect the ACLU but this is just getting insane. I have millions of outlets for free speech at my disposal. This guy could write his message in the snow in Times Square with piss and I would support it, but getting a payday because he had to cover his shirt to fly on a private airline? Fight the real fights and quit wasting time on things like this.
