Star Trek: The Motion Picture was better than Star Trek
Posted on May 27th, 2009 1 commentWell it was if you wanted to take a nap.
Star Trek delivered in a big way. It has everything that is Star Trek plus it was updated with some decent music and fresh ideas on the same themes. You cannot have Star Trek without time travel. I have no fucking clue why this is, but you have to have it in a Star Trek movie. This one used it as a minor plot point and it was not explored to the gills like the other movies. No Butterfly Effect type explanations, they actually make a bit of a joke about it towards the end.
The cast was great. No one was miscast. Simon Pegg is fucking brilliant as Scotty. I like Pegg, I like Scotty, so to me it was like watching some mutant super Scotty. Really I don’t many other peoples names from the movie and I am too lazy to look them up, so I will refer to them by screenname. Kirk was good, full on cocky without Shatner-esque overacting and need to be the only hero. Sulu was great, although he came closest to being miscast as I really do see him as Harold before all else. Chekov was good, as was Uhra(sp?). No one was bad, no one except Pegg was great though. In a movie like this, it is probably a good thing.
Minor annoyances? Just google “Star Trek Lens Flare” and you will find links to this annoyance. I will wait… ok back? Good. You see it was used just a bit too much, there is no sense in justifiying it or discussing it. It was just used too much. My only other annoyance was the need to get girls into their undies, the scene was there only for the undies. They looked fine half naked, and while I like girls in undies and less, in movies I like it to make sense. We knew Kirk was a womanizer, no need to show us this outright.

Thanks for the lecture News and Observer
Posted on May 14th, 2009 No commentsI live in Midtown, I guess, I thought I lived ITB, but North Hills somehow created this idea of Raleigh having a midtown, and although I am miles away, I get the Midtown edition of some paper The News and Observer puts out. Midtown is a marketing thing, which the N&O seems to be whoring along with the developers of North Hills. The paper itself is not the bad, a collection of stories and columns that might interest the people living ITB or in the “Midtown Area”. It is also a wrapper for a bunch of Wal-Mart and grocery store ads. Basically it is recycling material. If I could opt out I would, I might call and ask them not to leave it for me, and if they do I will call and tell them they littered on my lawn and I want them to come pick it up.
I am getting lost here, let me get back on topic, as if I ever stay on a topic. I read this nice little column in the paper. It is not so much that I disagree with the guy, but jesus, does your arm hurt from patting yourself on the back? Why do you feel the need to call this guy an ADHD retard because he called you out on this? He wrote in saying he thought you were covering it up in the April 22nd column, listing the other times it was talked about does nothing, if he read your column only in the Midtown edition that comes out, maybe he missed the other articles.
Let me quote the column:
Several more N&O articles since then have noted the irony.
So much for our coverup.
We’re working harder than ever, reporting honestly on things you need and want to know.
But to be a well-informed citizen, you’ve got to pay attention.
The cover-up:
Lets go back to the beginning:
The reader wasn’t happy that Raleigh was raising its water rates to compensate for conservation, and he demanded to know why we had covered that up.
“Your [April 22] column begs the question of why our leaders did not ever advise us, in their plea to conserve water, that it would cause higher water rates eventually,” he complained. “It appears again from the government’s view (and perhaps your view) the people cannot be entrusted with the whole truth.”
You call it a cover-up. He says that the government was not honest and that he thinks the N&O might have the view that the people cannot be entrusted with the truth. He never says you covered anything up, you did.
Working hard to tell the Truth!
I cannot find my archived blog about the N&O calling my neighborhood low income. They corrected it by saying Enloe High School has a higher rate of reduced and free lunch kids (they don’t) than other schools in Raleigh. I questioned via email the writer of the story and the editor, they provided me not one number, not a single digit. I gave them sources and numbers for all of my retorts, they just made more blanket statements.
The N&O cares about selling ads, that is it. They are a failure like almost every other piece of major media in this country. Sure they get the news out there, but they fuck up the facts and leave out facts for fear of pissing off an advertiser.
Pay Attention you ADHD motherfucker!
You actually infer this guy is not well informed because he did not read your paper. Really? Really?
I hope when I file for city council in a month and a half I get to talk to these pricks. I really do.

People just really don’t get it do they?
Posted on May 13th, 2009 No commentsNorth Carolina is closer to enacting a law to prohibit smoking in public places. Some places like private clubs (Elks, Moose Losge and the like) and cigar bars will be exempt. I fully, 100% support non-smoking in private but public places, but I really feel that the decision needs to be made by the owners and patrons, not the government, be it the local, state or federal.
The more we let the government make decisions such as these the more power we give to them to control other personal decisions for us. When I step into Dive Bar I know to expect people to be smoking. I expect to come home smelling like an ashtray and I expect to have to wach my clothes the next morning. If I don’t want this, I don’t go, I stay home or I go to a smoke free place.
People will argue, but I want to see XYZ band but I don’t want the smoke. Stay home and listen to a CD of XYZ and while doing so write a letterof the venue and tell them your feelings. Gather support from other people and ask the owners to go non-smoking, boycott the place, if you hurt them enough they will make a change for you.
This is just another case of people wanting the government to do everything for them. Personally I hate single ply toilet paper, I think it is stupid. When I find it in a place where I am actively wiping my ass, I wad up their single ply until I have used more than if it was single ply. I flush more. My ass crack is just not as clean as I would like when I use single ply. I would never seek out a law to ban single ply toilet paper in public bathrooms.
But BUT Health care is high for smokers, blah blah blah. Fuck you and your shitty health care concerns. I don’t care. I already pay for my health care and via taxes pay for a part of other peoples health care. Smokers also pay a huge tax which is supposed to help this. The businesses that allow smoking pay taxes. Quit bringing this up, find out where that tax money is going. This is a non-issue for me. All of these sin taxes yet it seems to be this sin money is probably going to prop up banks rather than to the people that pay them. I am too lazy to research this, but my guess is I am more right than wrong. Speaking of “sin” taxes, check this out. Yep, tax the soda, because you know, all personal choices should be taxed to the max.
It’s all a bullshit money and power game for the government. When Iowa enacted a smoking ban, the casinos were exempt, fearing it might cut into the money they generate, for the government. These actions are not in your best interest, they will keep chipping away at freedom until you have none. I am not sure cheering will be allowed then, so do it now, as the decibels might exceed safe levels for new borns.

Posted on May 11th, 2009 No commentsvia youtube.comFor some reason The Superfriends is the voice dubbing cartoon of choice. I am 100% sure this happens because people are lazy and the cheap Hanna Barbara animation style makes such things easy. If I were not lazy I would test this theory. Anyways I will be curious to see how Mike Judges new show does when it starts up.
